Financing entitiesThis project is co-financed by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Description

The objective of the project is to evaluate, develop and promote the use of technologies based on green hydrogen from renewable energies (for example marine energy) in ports in the Atlantic Area. This is articulated through the achievement of several specific objectives, which will resolve the following challenges:

  • Promote a clear role for hydrogen in the strategic energy plans of ports.
  • Increase knowledge about various hydrogen production technologies that are viable for use in ports.
  • Implement technological demonstrators that attract the interest of investors towards viable business models.

EnergyLab's Tasks

EnergyLab performs the following tasks:

  • Analysis of the current scenario and opportunities in the participating ports in Hydea and the Atlantic Area. Mapping of existing hydrogen initiatives in ports.
  • Creation of case studies, business models and a decision-making tool for the insertion of a hydrogen-based economy in ports.
  • Development and implementation in the Port of Vigo of a methanol production plant for use as fuel in the maritime fleet from the hydrogenation of CO2.
  • Demonstration of mobility with hydrogen in the facilities of the port of Vigo.
  • Collaboration in the development and implementation of a CO2 capture and purification membrane with hydrogen production, as well as a membrane reactor.
  • Contribution to the Hydea Community created within the project, leading two “Focus Groups”, the hydrogen production group and the hydrogen infrastructure and transportation group.
  • Transfer of knowledge, best practices and hydrogen-based innovations through the conversion of the technologies and knowledge generated during the project into an asset, with a view to its commercialization.
  • Participation in the development of an Action Plan for the decarbonization of the port of Vigo and the transition to a hydrogen-based economy.
