Description

The objective of the project is to promote the creation of energy communities based on biomass in rural areas as a viable alternative to produce local energy from the use of biomass generated in the surrounding mountains. The focus of these communities will be the supply of thermal needs of homes and public buildings (if applicable) through the creation of small heat networks, which will be complemented by the generation of photovoltaic electrical energy with storage. This is articulated through the achievement of several specific objectives:

  • Define a roadmap and legal framework for rural energy communities.
  • Implement technologies and infrastructure of rural energy communities in pilot villages for testing.
  • Develop a digital tool for the advanced management of energy communities in villages.

EnergyLab's Tasks

EnergyLab performs the following tasks:

  • Legislative and legal analysis in which the Energy Communities are located with the aim of minimizing barriers of this nature, and consequently favoring their creation. Particularly, in the rural environment of Galicia and the North of Portugal.
  • Cooperation to obtain a design of the own thermal and electrical energy supply facilities that can be easily digitized.
  • Creation of an energy community management platform that allows the optimization of own energy resources, both with the aim of maximizing economic returns and to progressively improve the energy behavior of different users. Likewise, this digital tool will facilitate the documentary and organizational administration of the community both to simplify its activity and to facilitate the creation of new initiatives.
  • Promote the creation of a Technical Cross-Border Office to provide advice and training to those interested in this type of initiatives.
